Charles Baldwin Sawyer was a Cleveland, Ohio scientist and businessman who figured prominently in the early development of the beryllium and Rochelle salt industries. Sawyer graduated from Yale University and MIT. In 1921, Sawyer and Charles F. Brush, Jr. founded the Brush Development Company. Sawyer also founded the Brush Beryllium Company and was instrumental in the development of modern uses for beryllium in nuclear physics and in rocketry. Charles B.
